Carlos Ocon Singley

Carlos Ocon Singley, 85, a resident of Angie, passed away Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012 at 6 p.m. at his daughter’s home in Varnado.

He was born Sept. 27, 1926 in the Angie Community to Billy and Myrtis Singley and later worked at the Box Plant of Crown Zellerbach in Bogalusa, retiring after 35 years of service. He was a longtime active member of Hilltop Missionary Baptist Church until a diagnosis of brain cancer three months ago. He enjoyed the outdoors, often fishing with family and friends. He loved gardening, even having a beautiful garden this year, and always had fresh vegetables to share with everyone. He was especially proud of his large tomatoes.

He married the love of his life, Bobbie Forbes, 67 years ago, on Dec.21, 1945. He will be missed by all those who knew him because he loved to visit and talk with anyone and he never once met a stranger.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Forbes Singley of Angie; a son and daughter-in-law, Waymon and Patricia Singley of Angie; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Robert Diehl of Nashville, Tenn. and Beverly and Billy Ray Freeman of Varnado; a brother and sister-in-law, Delos and Myrtle Lee Singley of Angie; a sister, Marie Seals of Angie; eight grandchildren and spouses, Danica and Scott Kirkpatrick, Waymon Eric Singley, Megan and Dustin Lemoine, Jenna Freeman, Candace Singley, Carlos “Cody” Singley, Monica and Eric Cunningham and Shea and Jennifer Diehl; five great-grandchildren, Ariel, Blaine, Jace, Wesley and Ben; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amber Singley; his parents, Billy Singley and Myrtis Hines Singley; a sister and brother-in-law, Odine Verlie Penton and Clifford Seals; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Earnest and Bessie Forbes; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold and Ruby Forbes.

Visitation was held Saturday, Aug. 25 at Crain Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and will continue Sunday at Hilltop Missionary Baptist Church from 11:30 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m., with Eld. Mark Hobgood, Eld. Clyde Cooper and Rev. Denny Brumfield officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Cody Singley, Zachary Seal, Scott Kirkpatrick, Byron Forbes, Kevin Magee, Brandon Jones, Ricky Forbes and Russ Seal.
