Bogalusa native Will Crain will fill a seat on the state’s 1st Circuit Court of Appeals in Baton Rouge, stepping into the position being vacated by the retirement of Judge Burrell Carter.

Crain, who will assume the Court of Appeals position Jan. 1, won the seat when he was the only qualifier for the Nov. 6 election.

Crain, the son of Judge Hillary J. Crain, has been serving on the 22nd Judicial District Court.

Crain will serve as judge for the court’s 3rd District Division D, which encompasses seven parishes, including Washington, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Livingston, St. Helena and East and West Felicinia.

The state will call a special election to fill Crain’s current seat.
