Thelma Kitchens Matthews

Thelma Kitchens Matthews passed away Friday, July 27, 2012 at AMG Specialty Hospital at the age of 87. Born Feb. 6, 1925, she was a retired secretary who worked for the state of Louisiana. She was a longtime resident of Bogalusa and a member of Palestine Baptist Church.

She is survived by sisters Sarah Peterson of Covington and Barbara Bennett of Bogalusa; a brother, Thomas Wayne Kitchens of Ponchatoula; special nephews and niece, Darryl Peterson, Dr. Yancey Peterson, Kitch H. Peterson and Krystal K. Peterson; and special great-nephews, Bryce Peterson, Zachary Peterson, Daron Peterson, Flynt Peterson, London Peterson-Gross and Gunnar Peterson-Gross; and other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Woodie E. and Lillie Mae (Sullivan) Kitchens and a brother, Edward Talmadge Kitchens.

Visitation will be held Sunday July 29 from 1 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m., with Rev. Denny Brumfield officiating the services. Interment will follow at Palestine Baptist Church Cemetery, located on Palestine Road.
