Thelma Evelyn Brumfield

Thelma Evelyn Brumfield was born on Aug. 6, 1919 in Tylertown, Miss. to the late Sendie Coleman. Her final transition was on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at 2:58 p.m. in the home of her goddaughter in Bogalusa.
She was married twice, first to Faris Kagler. There was one child from this marriage, Audrey Kagler. Later she married Curtis Brumfield. They were together for 45 years until his passing.
She graduated from Sally Richardson’s Beauty School in 1952. She was a well-known seamstress, a member of the Eastern Star Missionary Group and was well known for sewing, quilting and crocheting.
She joined Mt. Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. B.B. Moses and she stayed under the leadership of Rev. Owens, Rev. Galloway and Rev. Matthews. She attended Bible Way under the leadership of Pastor James Taylor. She later joined Mt. Carmel Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Tom Bailey.
She is survived by a goddaughter she raised as her own, Lady Danielle Brister and her children, Ebony Roberts, Tedrica, Jasmine, Kyra, Kera (Rishelle) Brister; a very special cousin that was raised with her as a sister, Maude Lee Mangrum; and other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Cutis Moss Brumfield; her daughter, Audrey Kagler; her mother Sendie Coleman; her stepfather, Namon Coleman; a close cousin, Velma Sampson; and Gary D. Mangrum.
Viewing will be held Friday, July 20 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 841 E. 6th St. in Bogalusa, from 10 a.m. until time for services at 11 a.m., with Rev. Tom Bailey, officiating. Interment will follow at Bogalusa Cemetery.
