Jo’Anne Polk is ready to perform her duties as judge of the Patriotic Hat Contest at Cassidy Park on Wednesday. The theme of the day is ‘Saluting Our Local Heroes,’ and Polk’s red, white and blue hat includes a picture of her husband/hero J.R. Polk, a disabled Vietnam veteran. Everyone is encouraged to give their patriotic creativity free reign while manufacturing their own headpieces and then to proudly wear them to the park at around 2 p.m. on the Fourth of July.
