A Metairie woman was killed in a crash just north of Folsom on Sunday afternoon, according to information from the Louisiana State Police.

Shortly before 1 p.m. on Sunday, troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 25, just north of Louisiana Highway 40 in Folsom. The crash claimed the life of 74-year-old Sandra M. Buras of Metairie.

According to the LSP, investigators determined Buras was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe southbound on Highway 25. For reasons still under investigation, Buras’ vehicle crashed into the rear of a southbound GMC pickup truck driven by Mable Starnes Chaney, 58, of Franklinton.

After the initial impact, Buras’ vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and crashed into a ditch embankment. The impact with the embankment caused the Tahoe to become airborne and roll onto its side.

Buras was not restrained at the time of the crash and was partially ejected from her vehicle. She suffered severe injuries and was airlifted to St. Tammany Parish Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.

Chaney was properly restrained and was not injured in the crash.

Presently, impairment is not suspected to have been a factor in this crash. Troopers did obtain blood samples, which will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
