SPECIAL TO THE DAILY NEWS
To provide more flexible and accessible education options, Bogalusa City Schools has announced the launch of its new virtual school program for students in grades 6 through 12. This innovative initiative is available to all students residing within the boundaries of the Bogalusa City Schools district and aims to meet the diverse needs of the local community. The school district launched this program as a virtual pilot in the fall of the 2024-2025 school year. After the success of this pilot during the semester, the school system will fully launch this program for the 2nd semester.
The virtual school program allows students to complete their coursework online, providing a flexible learning environment tailored to individual needs. Whether students seek a more personalized educational approach, balancing extracurricular commitments, or requiring an alternative to traditional schooling, the program is designed to accommodate various circumstances.
While most instruction will occur online, the program includes a mandatory in-person check-in every Friday. These check-ins will be held at designated school facilities within the district. They will allow students to receive additional academic support, participate in group activities, and collaboratively engage with teachers and peers. This hybrid approach ensures that students maintain regular contact with educators while still benefiting from the convenience of online learning. This differs from other online schooling options where the students do not have these personal connections with their educators and support staff within the district.
Superintendent Dr. Hurst expressed enthusiasm about the new initiative, stating, “We are thrilled to offer this virtual program to our students. It reflects our commitment to providing high-quality education while embracing the changing needs of our community. Combining online learning with in-person support ensures our students receive the best of both worlds.”
Enrollment for the virtual school program is now open, and interested families are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. Students must reside within the Bogalusa City Schools district to be eligible. Additional information about the curriculum, technology requirements, and registration process can be found on the district’s official website or by contacting the program coordinator directly.
With this new virtual school initiative, Bogalusa City Schools continues demonstrating its dedication to innovation and student success, paving the way for a brighter future for its students and the community.
