SPECIAL TO THE DAILY NEWS
On Friday, the Franklinton Demons secured their spot in the LHSAA Division II state championship with a 35-29 victory over the Iowa Yellowjackets. The win, which extended their record to 12-1, came after a late-game, 6-play, 58-yard scoring drive that sealed the victory.
Franklinton’s offense, which has averaged 40.2 points per game during its five-game home winning streak, was key in the tight contest. The Demons’ dominant drive late in the game allowed them to secure the win and advance to the championship round.
Iowa’s loss ended its 11-game winning streak, leaving it with a final record of 12-2.
Franklinton will now face Cecilia in the Division II state championship game on Friday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m. in the Superdome. Cecilia enters the matchup on a six-game winning streak, setting the stage for a highly anticipated title game.
