Dec. 7 election was a tight one for Town of Franklinton Alderman

Results are in for the election held on Dec 7. On the ballot were four proposed amendments to the Louisiana state Constitution, which were voted on throughout the state. Locally, a vote was held for an educational facilities tax, a fire protection tax for District 1, and the run-off for Bogalusa City councilman. A special election was also held for the alderman of the Town of Franklinton. The election for alderman had previously been postponed in the November election due to the death of candidate Frank Crosby. Five seats for alderman were filled with this election.

Each of the proposed amendments to the Louisiana State Constitution was passed. Amendment No. 1 received a 57 percent vote of yes. Amendment No. 2 passed with 64 percent voting yes. Amendment No. 3 passed with 58 percent voting yes, and amendment No. 4 received 53 percent votes of yes.

In Washington Parish, 55 percent of voters voted yes for the educational facilities tax, while 71 percent voted no for the fire protection District 1 tax. In the run-off for City of Bogalusa District 1 councilman, Marilyn D. Lott received 188 votes, while Wilton R. Dunaway received 201 votes, making him the new councilman for the City of Bogalusa. The election for alderman of the Town of Franklinton was a close one, with 6 out of 9 candidates each earning 11 percent of the votes. The five seats for alderman were filled by Lee R. Dillon, who took the lead with 476 votes. Following close behind was Randy Reed with 472 votes; Seth Descant, who received 468 votes; T.J. Butler, who received 455 votes; and Patrice Crain, who received 450 votes.
