The food drive hosted on Saturday Nov. 23, 2024 was a “huge success” according to the team at Lumberjacks Food Outlet. The event was a partnership between the Red Hat Bogalucy’s, the Bogalusa Civic League, and Lumberjacks Food Outlet. Lumberjacks donated a pallet of food and invited their customers to come out and purchase pre-made $5 or $10 bags to match their donation. Lumberjacks sold another 100 bags and received numerous other donations.

The items collected at the food drive will go towards stocking the several “Blessing Boxes” placed around town. The Blessing Boxes operate on the philosophy of “take what you need, give what you can. The boxes are meant to help provide food and personal care items to anyone in the community who may be in need and to give neighbors the opportunity to help their fellow neighbors. There are four boxes located in Bogalusa at Goodyear Park, Ave F, Memphis St, and Martin Luther King Dr. The Bogalusa Civic League stocks these boxes three times a week, and are always looking for donations to keep these boxes full.

The Red Hat Society is an international social organization for women that promotes friendship, fun, and fitness. While the society is open to women of all ages, it is generally for women over fifty. Each year the organization tries to find a cause to support and this year their holiday community project was the food drive to help those who may be in need this holiday season.
