Sister Helen Henry Lewis was born August 21, 1932 to the late Mrs. Harriet Mondy Henry and Mr. Otis Henry. She departed this life adn went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at the age of 91.

Sister Lewis accepted Christ at an early age at the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Varnado, La. under the leadership of the late Rev. B.B. Moses. She continued her membership under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Alfonso Nelson and presently under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Bryon Muse. She was a faithful and dedicated member of her Sunday School class, attended worship weekly, and served faithfully on the usher board for many years until her health failed. She loved God and her family. She gave so much of herself to this community and all who came in contact with her. She received the Certificate of Appreciation Concern Citizens Award for her dedicated church and community service. She was employed with Rest Haven Nursing Home until she was left disabled from a tragic car accident.

She leave to cherish her memories two sons, Joe Edward (Alva) Lewis Sr. of Bogaluas, La., Elgrie (Loletia) Lewis of Angie, La.; one daugher, Carolyn Devonnie (Cedrick) Banks of Missouri City, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren; six special grandchildren, Donald “Ro” (Nicole) Lewis Sr., Joe Edward (Jeanneth) Lewis Jr., Latoya Jefferson, Scottland (LaKendra) Lewis, Toni Moses, Nikara Taylor Lewis; Five special nieces, Doretha (Anthony) Monix, Marilyn (Johnny) Hayes, Jervonne (Shabaka) Williams, Lori (Hanif) Covington, Glenda (Rudoph) Gabriel; six special nephews, Raymond (Irene) Henry Sr., the Rev. Dr. Linza (KAren) Cotton, Jackie Robinson, Welton (Lisa) Henry, Elder Donald (Cara) Henry, Ethon Henry; three special daughters, Cassandra Lewis, Gwendolyn Lewis, Janet Morris Buckley; two special Godchildren, Ronald (Tamara) Lewis, Shaliza McKinley; two sister-in-laws, Maebell Harrington, Clarissa Jefferson; one brother-in-law, Chester (Gwen) Lewis; seven special cousins, Lois (Ven) Watterson, Barbara J. Pierce, Lavon Jackson, Kara J. Wesley, Mildred Jackson, Mitchell Jackson, Lisa Veasey; one special devoted caregiver, Denise James and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Curtis Owens; husband, Lonnie Lewis; adopted parents/aunt, Ethel Harry Sheppard, Eddie D. Harry; two sons, Ronald and Donald Lewis; one daughter, Janice Lewis; tow grandchildren, Keybian “Fat Cat” Lewis, Davonda Lewis; three sisters, Grace Forrest, Merlean Holden, Emma MArie Peters; one adopted sister/cousin, Dr. A. Lois Harry; three brothers, the Rev. Otis E. Henry, Orchel Peters, Ray Stevenson Owens; one special sister-in-law, Minnie Lewis.

No public viewing per the family’s request.

The family gathering will be Friday, July 19, 2024 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home, 638 Columbis St., Bogalusa, LA 70427. The funeral service will be Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 11 a.m. in Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 64115 Jones Creek Rd., Angie, LA 70426.
