Helen Ladner Burdeaux

Helen Ladner Burdeaux, born on January 10, 1933, passed away peacefully at her home on September 30, 2023, at the age of 90. Helen was a lifelong resident of Bogalusa, LA, and a member of Lee’s Creek Baptist Church. After graduating from Bogalusa High School, Helen completed the Licensed Practical Nurse program and was employed by Bogalusa Community Medical Center (BCMC). She married Floyd Ray Burdeaux in 1949, and they soon began raising a family. In 1975, she began attending Pearl River Community College and completed her B.S.R.N. degree at the University of Southern Mississippi. Along with BCMC, Helen also worked as an RN at Bogalusa Charity Hospital, the paper mill nurse under Gaylord Container Corp., and as co-owner of B&H Home Health.

Helen also volunteered her time as a Camp Fire Girls group leader, and a Sunday School teacher, and was a member of the Board of Directors for Seven Acres Substance Abuse Center. She loved being outside with her vegetable and flower gardens, mowing and rescuing stuck vehicles with her 4WD tractor, and going crabbing, boating, and to the beach. Helen’s favorite hobbies included cooking, sewing, painting, and various arts and crafts. She was a devout Christian and studied her Bible daily. Helen loved singing hymns whether at church, in a gospel quartet, or just while completing her housework. She deeply loved her family and friends and was known for her generous gift-giving. After a long, selfless life of hard work and dedication to helping others, Helen can now rest in comfort and peace in the arms of Jesus.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Floyd Ray Burdeaux; her parents, William L. and Lillie Walker Ladner; four brothers, W.B., W.L., Jimmy Dale, and David Ladner; two sisters: Ruth L. Day and Virginia L. Skinner; and one great-grandchild, Blayne Curran.

Helen is survived by two sons, Richard R. Burdeaux Sr. (Nina) of Jacksboro, TN, and Fred F. Burdeaux (Debbie) of Bogalusa, LA; one daughter, Lilyan B. Burns (Bert) of Bogalusa, LA; six grandchildren, Robert Burdeaux (Kris) of Lynchburg, VA; Helena B. Johnson (Chad) of Cookeville, TN; Michelle B. Ehrstine (Jason) of Maryville, TN; and Richard R. Burdeaux Jr. (Sam) of Knoxville, TN; Steven F. Burdeaux (Sarah) of Minden, LA; and Alyssa D. Knight of Bogalusa; 10 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Elouise L. Martin of Malvern, AR ; two brothers, D. Robert (Bonnie) Ladner and James Ladner of Bogalusa, LA.

The family would like to thank April, Kim, LaKieta, Jackie, and Willie for the love and care they gave her.

Visitation will be held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home in Bogalusa on Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 9:00 A.M. until time for the service at 11:00 A.M. Interment to follow at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.
