Fugitive Arrested: Louisiana Man Faces Justice After 1991 Attempted Murder Case

A Louisiana man, previously convicted of attempted second-degree murder in 1991 and on the run since the verdict, has been taken into custody in Mexico following a recent tip received by the FBI in New Orleans.
Greg Lawson, 63, from Ringgold, Louisiana, had been a fugitive since the guilty verdict in May 1991. The FBI had pursued numerous leads and suspected that Lawson had fled to Mexico.
Earlier this month, FBI New Orleans received credible information that Lawson was indeed in Mexico. Agents from Shreveport, in coordination with FBI Headquarters and Mexican immigration authorities, arrested Lawson in Huatulco, Mexico, on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. Mexican officials deported Lawson for immigration violations. Agents are now working with the Bienville Parish Sheriff’s Office to facilitate Lawson’s return to Louisiana.
“We want to acknowledge our partners and the public in this case, whose collaboration and assistance proved instrumental in progressing this investigation,” said Douglas A. Williams Jr., special agent in charge of FBI New Orleans. “There is no doubt that Mr. Lawson might still be at large if our partners in Mexico had not acted swiftly.”
