Pine’s baseball team captured its first series win in school history this weekend, defeating Red River 2 games to 1 on Friday and Saturday at Red River in the Division III non select playoffs.
Pine was defeated in the first game, 4-3.
Luke Spears singled with a run batted in and a run scored.
Brody Thomas doubled and scored a run.
Preston Stogner singled.
C.J. Cobon scored a run and Brady Polk drove in a run.
Pine evened the series with a 4-3 win later on Friday.
Polk singled, doubled and drove in two runs.
Stogner singled, drove in a run and scored two runs.
Spears singled with two RBIs and a run scored.
Lucas Lemaire and Trey Knight both singled and scored two runs.
Ethan Ryals scored a run and Hayden Logsdon posted an RBI.
Three pitchers threw for Pine.
Thomas went 2.2 shutout innings, allowing three hits with two strikeouts and a walk.
Magee worked three innings, allowing two runs, one earned on four hits with strikeouts and a walks.
Spears pitched 1.1 innings of shutout ball, allowing a hit with a strikeout and no walks.
Pine won the series on Saturday with a 6-3 victory.
Spears singled twice, drove in a run and scored a run.
Ryals singled twice and scored a run.
Polk posted two hits and a run scored.
Stogner tallied a hit and two runs scored.
Knight singled and scored a run.
Thomas singled and drove in a run.
Logsdon singled.
Thomas pitched a complete game, allowing an earned run on four hits with six strikeouts and five walks.
Pine has reached the second round of the playoffs each year post season has been held since 2018. The 2020 playoffs were canceled because of the pandemic.
No. 20 Pine is 16-10 and will face fourth-seeded Sterlington (22-9) on the road in the regional round on April 27-28, and if necessary, April 29.
No. 13 Red River caps off an 18-14 season.
