3 locals win individual events at District 7-3A Meet

Bogalusa teammates Ken’Yin Guynes and Haikem Thompson and Pine’s Samuel Magee won events at the District 7-3A Meet that was held last Wednesday at Jewel Sumner and plenty of locals are headed to regionals.
Guynes captured the discus with a throw of 108 feet, 6 inches. Pine’s Lyrian Hart came in fourth at 94-9.
Thompson was victorious in the javelin after throwing 166-3. Pine’s James Owens was fourth at 112-3. Teammate Zach Thomas was seventh with a 104-11.
Magee was tops in the 110 hurdles with a time of 18.39 seconds.
Last Wednesday’s meet was a qualifier. The top four from each event are headed to regionals. Regionals will be on April 26 at Jewel Sumner.
Bogalusa and Pine are the local teams in District 7-3A.
More locals qualified for regionals.
Pine teammates Magee and Averyon Wiley were second and third in the long jump with distances of 19-4 and 19-3.75. Jewel Sumner’s Rodney Brown won at 19-6.75.
Hart came in second for the shot put at 37-9.5. Bogalusa teammates Tramon Rarliff and Kenneth Keys were fifth and sixth with distances of 35-8 and 35-0.5. Jewel Sumner’s Desmond Collins Jr. won at 41-2.
Pine’s 4×200 relay team was second after running in 1 minute, 35 seconds. The team had Owens, Thomas Bernard, Magee and Thomas. Jewel Sumner won in 1:33.
Owens came in third in the 100 at 11.93. Teammate Bernard was fifth in 12:07. Jewel Sumner’s Kameren Cook topped the event in 11.48.
Pine’s 4×100 relay team was third with a time of 45.35. The team had Owens, Bernard, Magee and Wiley. Jewel Sumner was victorious in 43.95.
Pine’s Ethan Aguilar was fourth in the 1,600 at 6:03. Jewel Sumner’s Silas Childress ran 5:19 to win.
Bogalusa’s Christian Gable came in fourth place in the 400 in 59.75. Pine’s Ty Williams was sixth in 1:07. Albany’s Antoine Taylor won in 53.02.
Bogalusa’s Christian Gable was fourth in the 300 hurdles in 1:01, as Jewel Sumner’s Dave Dematteo won at 47.81.
Pine teammates Nino Martin and Aguilar ran fifth and sixth in the 800 with times of 2:31 and 2:42 with Taylor winning in 2:09.
Pine’s Thomas and Williams ran second and seventh in the 200 with times of 24.62 and 29.37. Cook won in 23.76.
