Southern University’s Clyedterrious Thompson won an individual event and was part of a winning relay team at the Pelican Relays that were held on April 8 at A.W. Mumford Stadium on the campus of Southern University.

Thompson, who graduated from Bogalusa High School in 2020, was victorious in the 100 meters by setting personal best time at Southern of 10.46. He won the race by 0.11 seconds.

“It felt real good. I executed my race like I had to how I was supposed to,” Thompson said. “Everything was done correctly and I came out victorious.”

Thompson was part of Southern’s winning 4×100 relay team that clocked in at 40.73.

Southern’s relay team also had Derrick Washington, DeAnthony Nervis and Austin Wells.

“It was great,” Thompson said. “It’s small things and we trust each other to run as fast as we can. It was fun to compete against other teams at our home meet.”

Thompson came in second place in the 200 after running his lifetime best time of 21.31. Dillard’s Cody Branch won at 21.17.

“The lane assignment wasn’t what I wanted, but my teammates and coaches kept telling me not to worry about that and to run my race,” Thompson said. “I kept that thought until I crossed the finish line. I came out with a new PR and I was happy about that.”

Thompson is a sociology major.

Bogalusa High School fans won’t have too far to drive to see Thompson’s next meet, which is April 15 at Southeastern Louisiana University.
