Ellen G. Matthews was born on Nov. 27, 1950 in Varnado, La. to the late Johnny and Nancy Robinson. She joined Mt. Zion Missonary Baptist church as a young child.

Ellen was a 1968 Graduate of Wesley Ray School. Ellen attened Universtity in Baton Rouge.

Ellen and her husband’s job took them many places. She untied with Grace Church in Houston Texas, where she served as a teacher in the nursery. She was employed at Christan Life Center in Houston, Texas for 15 years, she was director of the child care, which she enjoyed. Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life, which she often expressed by visiting them in Baton Rouge.

She left to cherish her  husband of 15 years  Richard E. Matthews; one daughter, Elisa Matthews; two sons, Brad Matthews, Richard Matthews Jr. (Tasha); eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three sisters, Eddie M. Bickman, Louise Smith, and Jerri (Rodolph) Thompson; two brothers Billy (Rene) Robinson, Charles Robinson; one brother-in-law, Joseph Matthews; two sister-in- laws, Claudzella Robinson, and Barbara Harry; and a host of neices, nephews, relatives, and friends.

A visitation for Ellen will be held Monday, April 10, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A funeral service will occur Monday, April 10, 2023 at 12 p.m. A burial will occur Monday, April 10, 2023 at Rookside Memorial Park, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039.
