Mrs. Rusty Durand a resident of Bogalusa, LA passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2023, at the age of 85.

Rusty was born in Alexandria, La. and was raised in Bogalusa, La, but she also lived in Washington D.C. where she met her husband, Tony.  Rusty was a graduate of Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans, LA.  From there they moved to New York City, and then to Houston, Texas  where she and her husband, Tony raised their sons.  After the death of her mother, Rusty and Tony returned to Bogalusa, La. and resided in her childhood home.  She was a past President of The Civic League of Bogalusa, a member of Ingleside Book Club, and an avid Bridge player.  She was also an active member of the Golden Girls at the Bogalusa Country Club and of “Le Cher Amie” Mardi Gras Crew.  She was also a member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church.

Rusty was a world traveler and enjoyed traveling with Tony and friends to Europe, Russia, and many other places abroad.  Her favorite trip was on the QE2 from South Hampton, England to New York City.  She also loved her beloved dog, Doxy, who stayed by her side until the end.

Rusty is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Tony Durand of Bogalusa, La.; two sons, Lee Mitchell Durand of Austin, TX and Jim Durand of Katy, TX; and three grandchildren, Cameron, Shari, and Chase Durand.

Rusty was preceded in death by her parents, “Speed” and Willie Mae Richardson.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023, at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Bogalusa, La.  Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the service at 10:30 a.m. with Deacon Louis Ogle officiating the service. A reception to follow the service at the Parish Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in her memory to the Nellie Byers School at 640 Avenue V Bogalusa, LA 70427.
