Bogalusa starting to host track/field meets in March

Bogalusa High School will start hosting track meets in March at the new Gary C. Magee Track Complex.

The first high school meet is taking place on March 3.

The initial Junior High/Middle School Invitational is set for March 7. Field events will start at 4 p.m. with track event at 5 p.m. or 5:30 p.m.

Each school is allowed four individuals — four boys and four girls — per event. Each school will enter one boys and one girls relay team with four entries per school in the field events.

There will be no entry fees for teams and Bogalusa coach Eddie Walker said that all schools are urged to enter.

There will be no teams and individual awards, but that they will time the races.

The implement weight in is 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The event schedule is girls long jump, boys long jump, girls high jump, boys shot put, girls shot put, girls discus, girls triple jump and boys triple jump.

THe running schedule starts with the 4×800 meter relay. After that is the 300 hurdles, 4×200, 1,600, 100 hurdles, 800, 4×100, 400, 200 and 4×400.

The cost for fans is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

The inaugural elementary meet for boys and girls ages 7-12 will be on March 11, starting at 9:30 p.m.

The track and field events start with the girls and then the boys will follow.

The field events are softball throw for ages 7-8, shot put for 9-12s, long jump, high jump and the turbo javelin. The turbo javelin is for 9-12s.

In the running events, 7-8s will have the 50-meters. The rest of the running events are the 100, 200, 100 hurdles (11-12 only), 400, 800 (9-12s only) and the 4×400 relay.

The entry fee is $3 per athlete for all entries. Ribbon awards will be given to the top six in all events.

The entry fee for fans is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Walker said that he would like to get an elementary school track club started. Walker said that if parents start their own track team, he can work on getting the club organized.

Law enforcement will be site and there will be medal detectors.
