According to the Bogalusa Facebook Page, the Bogalusa Police Department Criminal Investigations Division would like to inform the public of a telephone scam, whereas the caller is posing as a Bogalusa Police Department officer, and asking call recipients to call a number that does not belong to the Bogalusa Police Department.

The post says that if anyone gets a call, asking them to contact the police department, please ONLY call 985-732-3611 or 985-732-6238 and ask for the officer. The post says that our dispatcher will notify the officer that you are calling.

The post says that officers with the Bogalusa Police Department will not ask you for bank account information or social security numbers over the phone, and will NEVER ask you to send money of any type, using any type of payment method. The post says that the Bogalusa Police Department is a Law Enforcement Agency, not a collections agency, and never takes payments for anything, with the exception of “in-person” bond payments at the City Jail.

If you receive a call, that you think is suspicious, please contact the Bogalusa Police Department directly at 985-732-3611 or the Criminal Investigations Division directly at 985-732-6238, the post says.

If you send money to these scammers, you may not be able to recover your money, so please don’t send any money, or give any personal information, without first calling the police department directly at the above numbers, the post says.
