Mt. Hermon High School’s January student of the month, Blayke Brinker, is the daughter of Kelly and Misty Alford. She is also the granddaughter of Doix and Paula Alford, as well as Vandy and Lynn Lewis. She is the older sister of Maxwell Brinker and Presley Brinker.
Blayke is 18 years old and has attended Mt. Hermon School for 11 years. Throughout her academic career, Blayke has maintained honor and banner roll with a 3.9 grade point average. She is currently enrolled in dual enrollment classes through Southeastern Louisiana University and will graduate with nine college credits. Blayke has represented Mt. Hermon School in the District Literary Rally in various subjects, even placing first in IBCA as an eighth grader. She has also received awards in the Young Author’s Contest, capturing the title of district winner several times and earning recognition for first place at the state level as an eighth grader. While attending MHS, Blayke has also been very active in her school’s sports programs and clubs. Blayke has been a member of the Lady Jacket Varsity Basketball team since her eighth grade year and has lettered all five years. As a junior, Blayke was recognized as All District Honorable Mention. She is also a consistent member of Mt. Hermon clubs, such as Senior Beta, Good Samaritan, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Youth Coalition and Student Council. Blayke has served several leadership positions in these clubs including: secretary, reporter, and president. This year she was voted President of the Student Council, Secretary of The Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Reporter for the Senior Beta Club, and President of the Senior Class. As a member in these clubs, she has visited the local nursing home, donated canned foods, organized fundraisers for breast cancer awareness, participated in placing wreaths on Veterans’ graves in local cemeteries, volunteered to feed and serve the community’s senior citizens, as well as participate in putting on the Veteran’s Day Program at MHS.
In the fall, Blayke will continue her academic career at Southeastern Louisiana University where she will major in nursing to further pursue a career as a Nurse Anesthetist.
