David Anthony is formally announcing his campaign for Washington Parish President. Anthony is a native of the Mt. Hermon community and was elected to the Washington Parish Council last term from 2016-2019 where he served on the Washington Parish Charter Commission, Washington Parish Personnel Committee, Washington Parish Solid Waste Committee, Washington Parish Infrastructure Committee as chairman, Washington Parish Finance Committee, Washington Parish Transportation Committee, and Washington Parish Health Unit Committee. As a Parish Councilman and Council Officer, David has been responsible for creating, amending, and revoking Parish Law by ordinance, taking official positions of the government by resolution, approving an approximately $24 million Parish Budget, insuring a balance of government, instituting fair employee compensation for work performance, updating the Parish Employee Handbook, assure that the City of Bogalusa could resume use of the landfill without interruption or price increase to the public for the Parish’s buyout of  the City’s ownership, and many other Parish duties and responsibilities.

Anthony has a vision and a real platform for Washington Parish by prioritizing Parish responsibilities. He has created a plan based on public need and usage, seasonal accommodations for labor, materials, and weather conditions, and will work to ensure every member of the public gets a fair outcome from their government. By making sure that government projects act in the greater public’s best interests, utilizing the public’s resources in the best way possible, and ensuring that the Parish Government works for the people it represents, so that the government can better support the community.

Anthony strives to promote more community involvement in their local governments, more public transparency through a larger media platform, direct accountability from elected positions, more recreation opportunities with no increase in taxation, fair and equitable employment practices, and work better with local governing bodies to assist municipalities and coordinate efforts, have an open door policy with other Parish agencies, and guarantee that the obligation of State mandated expenses are met.

Anthony believes individuals at high level government positions should be good managers of the public’s resources, be able to supervise employees to get the maximum benefit for their efforts, fairly compensate employees for job performance, be available to the public, and work well together with colleagues.

Anthony understands what it means to the economy and standard of living for the residents to improve infrastructure such as, but not limited to, road improvements and upgrades.

As Owner, Operator, and CEO of Anthony’s Painting- a commercial, industrial and residential painting and construction company- David is responsible for all liabilities, employees, sub-contractors, planning, and day-to-day decision making for the business. He has occupational licenses in Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and South Carolina. He has a Louisiana Commercial Driver’s License, Louisiana Professional Painting & Paper Hanging License, United States Transportation Worker Identification Credential, 30 hours of U.S. Occupational Safety & Health Administration Outreach, and Louisiana Board of Ethics Training and Compliance Certifications.

Anthony is a member of Mt. Hermon UPC, promoter of the Forgiven Tour in 2018, donated the Washington Parish Courthouse Christmas Lighting Display in 2019 as well as the Franklinton Town Hall Christmas Lighting Display in 2021 and 2022, was Mt. Hermon Jr. High Football Assistant Coach 2020, and Franklinton Dixie Baseball Assistant Coach 2014.

He was a Help Center for Churches volunteer, and was on the Washington Parish Fair Association Stage Committee. David is a member of the Washington Parish Watermelon, Fruit & Vegetable Association Corporation which is attempting to resurrect the Washington Parish Watermelon Festival. He has also volunteered his time in other projects that include refurbishing the Washington Parish Animal Shelter, cleaning of the exterior of the Sherif’s office in Franklinton, and many local school and community projects throughout his adult life.
