Lady Demons soccer won their match against International High School of New Orleans , 7-0, on Friday night at home.

The leading scorer was Kaylee Ard with three goals. Morgan Varnado added two goals, followed by Madysen Varnado and Brooklyn Pedersen, who tacked on one goal each.

The Lady Demons were able to prevent International from taking a shot on goal in the match.

“We totally dominated the first half of the match, but didn’t have much to show for it,” Franklinton coach Matthew Hughes said. “It just wasn’t clean. In the second half, we were able to capitalize on our opportunities. Our ability to maintain possession allowed us to completely control the pace of the game. We aren’t where we want to be by any means, but our girls have continued to grow and improve throughout the course of the year. I’m proud of them.”

Hughes said he is very proud of Ard.

“She has been phenomenal for us these past few weeks,” Hughes said. “She was able to put a few opportunistic touches on the ball and score multiple goals Friday night, but she has played very well for a while now.”

Hughes also said that he is very happy that Pedersen was able to score her first career goal.

“She’s a senior, and scoring a goal was something she wanted desperately,” Hughes said. “She has been with Lady Demons Soccer from the beginning, and has meant a lot to our program.”

Hughes said they have a young team.

“Our captains, Madysen and Mercedes, are juniors,” Hughes said. “We have a few other Juniors and several talented sophomores and freshmen. Not only does this team still have all of its goals for this season still squarely in front of it, but we also have a solid foundation to build off of moving forward.”

Franklinton’s next game will be on Jan. 17 against Plaquemine on the road.
