The Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office continues to monitor parish businesses which sell alcohol in an attempt to identify those that are not requiring proper identification of the purchaser. On Jan. 5, another check was made utilizing an underage purchaser who attempted to purchase alcohol.

During the Jan. 5 operation, clerks at 15 establishments required proper age verification and refused to sell alcohol to the minor. Six businesses did not verify the purchaser’s age and sold alcohol to the minor. Those six businesses were Town Crier and Market Max in Franklinton and Highway 10 One Stop, CVS, Highway 10 Chevron and JZ Quick Stop in Bogalusa.

“After a recent successful operation when all visited businesses complied with age verification, I was hoping we would have a repeat of everyone being in compliance,” stated Sheriff Randy Seal. “Unfortunately, that did not happen on Jan. 5 and six of our local stores were in violation of Louisiana. Clerks at each of those businesses were issued a summons to appear in court. We will continue to monitor alcohol sales to minors during 2023.”
