Saturday’s election saw a close race for councilmen at large.
Tamira Moss Smith (DEM) and Penny Douglas (DEM) had the most votes at 526 and 473 respectively, which was 28 and 25 percent for their wins.
Wendy Williams Dupont (IND) was just three votes shy at 470, which is 25 percent and James “Mack” Mcgehee (NOPTY) had 424 or 22 percent.
Keith R. Giles (REP) won the election for Member of School Board – District 1 Race with 344 votes, which is 60 percent. Justin Brown (IND) got 233 votes for 40 percent.
David “Big Dave” Pettitt (NOPTY) won the Member of the School Board – District 7 Race over Lee Alan McCain II (IND) 218 votes to 175. Pettit had 55 percent of the votes to McCain’s 45.
Frankie Crosby, Sr. (DEM) won the race for Member of School Board – District 8 with 336 votes to 238 for Sarah Burris (REP). Crosby got 59 percent of the votes, while Burris had 41.
CA No. 1 (ACT 279, 2022 – HB 178) – Requires U.S. citizenship in order to register and vote in Louisiana was passed statewide with 73 percent of the vote with 314,678 overall. There were 113,807 that voted no for 27 percent. Locally it passed with 3,042 votes or 72 percent. There were 1,164 voters who voted no for 28 percent.
CA No. 2 (ACT 281, 2022 – SB 160) – Required Senate confirmation of gubernatorially appointed members of the State Civil Service Comm. passed with 300,635 votes for 71 percent. There were 123,250 for no or 29 percent. Locally, there 2,716 votes or 66 percent for yes, while 1,414 voters or 34 percent voted no.
CA No. 3 (ACT 280, 2022- SB 75) – Requires Senate confirmation of certain members of the State Police Comm passed with 305,007 or 72 percent, while 118,538 or 28 percent voted no
Locally, 66 percent of the vote with 2,710 was yes. There were 1,413 people that voted no for 34 percent.
Sales Tax District No. 3 – 1/3 of 1 percent S&U Tax Renewal – PC – 10 Yrs. passed with 2,031 votes or 59 percent. There were 1,390 votes that voted no for 41 percent.
