Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

He will call upon me and I will answer; I will be with him in distress; I will deliver him and give him honor.

Although Artis’s departure was premature to us, he lived a purposeful life surrounded by people who loved him.

When he walked in a room where he knew no one, he it wouldn’t be long before he was laughing and talking to someone.

Artis never finished high school but chose to get his GED. He loved working, especially when he got paid.

DC born and bred found he loved working with the cattle and other animals on the farm, and growing food. Especially okra, he said the people in Louisiana act like its crack. They had to have it. Couldn’t pick it fast enough. He will truly be missed by family and friends. Artis never married and never had children that we know of.

He leaves behind his father Artis Washington Sr., mother Lavern Ashe Gannon, stepfather John Gannon, one sister Verlyn Ashe, three brothers Keith Washington, Dennis Coates, Kareem Ashe, and one godbrother Eric Perkins. Three stepsiblings Sean Gannon, Joanna Gannon and Melody Gannon Potter. Two sisters-in-law Stacey Coates and Stephanie Ashe. One grandfather Benny Amin and step-grandmother Sadie Amin and a whole host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and close friends.

The funeral service was held on Nov. 19 at Bethel Church of Christ Holiness USA in Franklinton.
