Bogalusa resident Inez Miller is a homeowner.
“It’s a dream come true,” Miller said. “I never thought I’d be able to do it to tell the truth. It’s something different. I looked at it as if I’m going to be paying a whole bunch of rent, I might as well be trying to buy a house.”
Miller closed on Nov. 8.
Miller is a single mother, who has three children ages 3, 8 and 14.
Miller works at Wal-Mart where she has been a total of nine years.
Wendy Williams Dupont, who is the executive director of Bogalusa Rebirth, said Miller was able to buy the house through the help of Bogalusa Rebirth. Williams said it took about seven months from the time Miller applied to when she closed.
Capital One provided $5,000 in direct down payment assistance and Miller did some counseling to help improve her credit score.
Bogalusa Rebirth is a certified Community Housing Development Organization through Louisiana Housing Corporation.
HUD HOME funds are used for the construction of the homes. Hancock Whitney Bank provided interim financing.
This is the third closing by Bogalusa Rebirth.
There are four houses under construction and eight more houses in predevelopment. Bogalusa Rebirth started in 2007, but became certified CHDO for housing development in 2017.
