Gayle Walsdorf Foret passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022, at the age of 85. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dr. Gerald Foret; and sons, Dr. Gerald Foret Jr. and wife Jody, and Dr. Christopher Foret and wife Julie. Gayle was “Gigi” to her beloved grandchildren, Dr. Gerald Lee Foret III and wife Avery, Dr. Andrew Foret, Dr. Janna Foret Nelson and husband Matthew, and Ashley Foret; and step-grandchildren, Brooke and Maloree Miller. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Brighton and Jameson Foret; special cousin, Rhonda Atkinson; dear friend, Louise Fisher; and several nieces and nephews.

Born to August W. and Helen B. Walsdorf in New Orleans, Gayle attended Warren Easton High School. She graduated from Louisiana State University with a bachelor’s degree in education. She worked as a social worker in New Orleans before the family moved to Lafayette. Subsequently, Gayle and Dr. Gerry moved to Natchez, Miss., and then relocated to North Carolina. In 1968, the Foret family moved from Camp Lejeune, to Franklinton. Working with her husband, she served as the office manager of Family Medical Clinic for 32 years. Gayle was a board member for Hospice of St. Tammany and a former president of the Franklinton Women’s Club. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. Gayle loved family, LSU, Mardi Gras, Christmas, Fox News, card games, old fashioneds, cute shoes, shopping and going to “the beauty.” She cherished spending time with the roadrunners, the football group, the card group, the bible group, the lunch bunch and the S&J group. Her friends in Franklinton were paramount to her, supporting and loving her as she did them. Gayle was kindhearted to all — one of her many virtues.

Special thanks to caregivers Janice Smith and Sabrina Butler.

Visitation will be at Centenary United Methodist Church (1015 Cleveland St. in Franklinton) on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. A funeral service will be held in the church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Cecil Locke officiating. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations be made to Centenary United Methodist Church.
