Locals compete in cross country meet

Bogalusa, Franklinton and Mt. Hermon School competed in the Slidell High School Zydeco Scramble Cross Country Invitational that was held last Saturday at Bogue Chitto State Park.

The event featured three races, including boys and girls varsity, which was a 5K, and there was a junior varsity two-mile race.

There were about 75 varsity boys, 45 varsity girls and about 65 runners in the junior high race.

Coaches kept times.

Mt. Hermon School added cross country this year and this was their first race.

Mt. Hermon did not have the times, but coach Lynn Lewis said that everybody finished the race.

The boys team included Weston Fortenberry, Graycen Claunch, Mason Taylor, Carson, Constant,  Keighan Brumfield and Phoenix Bertrand.

Mt. Hermon’s girls team had Kathrine Quin, Meggan Fountain, Lani Rando, McKenzie Fountain, Raeleigh Martin, Paisley Pena, Emma Pena and Syria Crain.

Lewis said she is proud of the support her teams showed after one of their runners suffered a knee injury and another felt the effects of having asthma.

Lewis said they went with them to the finish line.

Franklinton had several boys run.

Andrew Crain came in 15th with a time of 22 minutes, 40 seconds.

Jacob Crain was next at 22:50.

Andrew Fitzmorris ran a 25:26 for 38th.

Kolby Robertson was 39th with a time of 25:27.

Blake Pickering took 45th at 26:46.

Bogalusa had one boy in varsity and two girls in the junior high race.

Tyler Williams came in 36th place.

In the junior varsity division, Sha’kezie Jefferson ran in 25:25.

Ciearra Gibson timed in at 26:00.
