Mr. Tommy Brumfield departed this life on Monday, Aug. 29, 2022, around noon, as God accepted him with opened arms.

Tommy was born and brought up in Bogalusa. He loved his town and the people in it. Tommy (Jungle Man) attended Bogalusa City Schools, where he played basketball. He attended and graduated Central Memorial High School Class of 1969. Later, after graduation, he started working at the Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill as a machine operator for 16 years after the passing of Tommy’s mother, the late Helena Mae Brumfield.

Tommy decided to move to Los Angeles, Calif., with his brother, Glenn Brumfield. Years later, Tommy returned to Bogalusa. He worked some odd jobs. The job that led him into his retirement was Sanderson Farms in Hammond. Tommy enjoyed working and was a very hard worker. Tommy’s health began to fail, which then pushed him to retire from the chicken job after six years of employment.

Tommy (Jungle Man) enjoyed life. He traveled, partied, and walked in the King Parades every year, Civil Rights movements for years, and even the Great March from Bogalusa to Baton Rouge with the great A.Z. Young. Tommy used to sit and talk hours on his life history.

Tommy loved his family and would often tell them.

Tommy loved his class of 69. He also loved the City of Bogalusa, football, and the New Orleans Saints was his team, win or lose. That’s his team. Tommy looked out for many people during his lifetime, both family and friends. He will be missed greatly.

Tommy leaves behind to cherish his precious memories: his companion of 39 years, Miss Gilda D. Bell; four children, Mrs. Tammy Brumfield (David) McCallop, Jowandolyn Brumfield (Gerald) Nelson, both of Baton Rouge, Marzelos Bell, Tommy Bell both of Bogalusa; brothers, Glenn Brumfield (Ezzie Williams) Brumfield of Fayetteville, N.C., Clifford Donnell Brumfield of Tulsa, Okla., C.J. Quinn from Bogalusa; sisters, Carolyn (Richard) Brister, Benny Ruth Miller, Lillie (Ronald) Brown, all from Bogalusa, and Jackie (Minnie) Wabomnor of Slidell.
