Franklinton’s Micah Wascom is ranked the eighth best prospect in the state for the Class of 2024 by Prep Baseball Report for Louisiana.

“That was pretty awesome,” Wascom said. “I was eighth last year. Louisiana has a lot of talent in the 2024 class, so being in the top 10 is pretty awesome.”

Last season, Wascom posted an 8-1 record this season with a 1.11 ERA. Wascom posted 94 strikeouts and just 23 walks over 57 innings. Wascom had a 0.84 WHIP (walks plus hits divided by innings pitched) and kept opponents to a .125 average against him.

Last season, Wascom was named a Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association All-State Player for Class 4A.

Wascom was the District 9-4A co-Most Valuable Player with Lakeshore’s Eli Lirette.

Wascom, who is a University of Southern Mississippi commit, throws three pitches, including fastball, curveball and changeup.

Wascom said his fastball, which is normally around 80-91 and has topped out at 92, is his  best pitch.

“That’s the most electric one,” Wascom said.

Wascom was selected for the 18U Team USA tryout.

Wascom said that four out of 80 got selected, but he was unable to go because of an injury.

When asked his strength, he said his competitiveness on the mound.

“I’m not really a vocal leader, but I try to lead through actions,” Wascom said.

Last season, Franlkinton made it to the regional round of the playoffs, but were defeated by Lakeshore in both games, 7-3, 7-0.

“I expect us to have a good high school year,” Wascom said. “We’ve got a lot of good arms and we’ve been hitting the weight room. Will Turner is hitting the weight room real hard. He’s got a few schools looking at him. He’s expected to have a breakout year.”
