Mr. Durwood Wayne Alford, a native of Bogalusa, and resident of Covington, passed away surrounded by his family at his residence on Monday, Aug. 29, 2022, at the age of 87. He was employed with the Bogalusa Paper Mill for 42 years and was a member of Bogalusa First Baptist Church.

Mr. Alford is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marie G. Alford; his children, Durlene (John) Bigler of Houma, Dru (Scott) Scoggin of Slidell, Durie (Lenny) St. Pierre of Woodstock, Ga., and Durla (John) Kelleher of San Francisco, Calif.; and his nine grandchildren, Jace (Michelle) Bigler of Baton Rouge, Jared Bigler of Memphis, Tenn., Sean Scoggin of Slidell, Claire Scoggin of Slidell, Landen St. Pierre of Woodstock, Jordie St. Pierre of Baton Rouge, Cardur St. Pierre of Woodstock, Allie Kelleher of San Francisco, Calif., and Zoe Kelleher of San Francisco. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Mr. Alford was preceded in death by his parents, Ottis Alford and Angie Pierce Alford, and his two sisters, Melda Foil and Jean Adams.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Sept. 3, at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until time for the services at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Tommy Pittman officiating the services. Interment will follow at Sanctuary of Peace Mausoleum.

The Alford Family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. The Alford Family would also like to give a special thank you to Mr. Alford’s caregivers: Jackie, Jane, Jo, Sharon, Clara and Stephanie.
