The Share the Rock Basketball Camp taught participants basketball and life skills in late May.

“It was just a great week,” Ben’s Ford Christian School athletic director/boys basketball coach Derek Dantin said. “We had over 55 kids there for the week. We had great help from the coaches, the people that came and the parents.”

Throughout the week of the camp, which was in  late May at Ben’s Ford Christian School, community leaders spoke to the participants.

The guest speakers included Washington Parish President Richard Thomas, Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal, Bogalusa State Rep. Malinda White and former Bogalusa Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Kenny Martin and District Attorney Warren Montgomery.

On the basketball side, the clinic included coaches and some of Ben’s Ford Christian School’s older players.

Besides Dantin, the coaches included DeSean Toller, who will be a Ben’s Ford assistant coach in the upcoming season, Ben’s Ford girls basketball coach Mark McGehee, Mike Keen, who helps with Annunciation Catholic School sports and Ben’s Ford Baptist Church Pastor Caleb Martin. Martin also helps with the Milltown Magic Travel Basketball Team.

The players included Jonah Holston, Ashlyn Dantin, Noel Martin, Sylvia Rosa, Gracie Willis and Maddie Willis.

Campers went through stations in the morning that taught them different skills of basketball and they competed in the afternoon.

The stations included a shooting station, a passing/defense and footwork station and a ball handling station.

The competitions included a free-throw competition, a hot shot competition and a game called bump. Bump is a game where you want to make a bucket as quickly as possible. The first person shoots and if the second person makes a shot before the first person, the first person is out. The game goes on until there is one left.
