Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Varnado is at home on Thursday to scrimmage against Science Academy.

“Our numbers are up, which was one of the problems that we had when I first got here,” Varnado coach Adam Brumfield said. “Last year, we started with 18. This year should be 28-30. So that means half the team we haven’t actually got to evaluate in a game situation. So our goal is to get a look at some kids, work on timing offensively, see some kids tackle defensively and leave the game without any injuries. Staying healthy is a key for success in smaller programs. Next guy up in 4A-5A is a lot different than in 1A. Your next guy up might be a freshman or in some cases someone who hasn’t been working that position.”

The event will rotate first and second-team players three times. First teamers will run 10 plays, while the second stringers will run six.

After the series of plays, there will be a regular quarter.
