“We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” — 2 Corinthians 5:8. Our Father in heaven hears us, and He will comfort us with this truth in these times.

Ruth Lewis was born Oct. 20, 1938, in Holmesville, Miss., to the late Eddie Lee and Rosie Frances Harris.

She transitioned from earth to heaven peacefully at home on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents Eddie Sr. and Rosie Harris; brothers, Johnny, Jimmy, Michael and Eddie, sister, Ruby Manning; and children, Sharon Ann Peters and Kenneth Wayne Lewis. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Leon Lewis.

Over the course of her life, she wore many hats — mother, wife, Momo, sister, friend and many more. But above all else, she was a child of God. She was a proud member of the Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church in Bogalusa for many decades and served there faithfully in many roles. You couldn’t spend much time around her without her witnessing to the goodness of God. She had faith that could move mountains and held to her faith even in the midst of great sadness and adversity.

Her family was the pride and joy of her life. She leaves to cherish a lifetime of memories: her children, Oscar (Susan) Lewis of Copperas Cove, Texas, Ronald (Regina) Lewis of Bogalusa, Leon Earl (Jessica) Lewis and Donald (Connie) Lewis of Bogalusa; grandchildren, Leonard Duke Lewis, Oscar Lewis Jr., Jessica Lewis, Angela (AJ) Robinson, Sharonda Causey, Broderick Lewis, Brent Lewis, Breylon Lewis, Leonna Lewis, Jacalvin O’Ree, Donald (Jade) Lewis Jr., Erica (Kendon) Grant, and Yvette Lewis, Sisters: Lubertha Keller, Mary (Grover) Maxwell, Bonnie and Dora Harris, and Lucinda (Eldry) Guynes; brothers, Billy (Louise) Frances, Issac (Edna) Harris, Edgar (Pam) Harris, Hillary (Evette) Harris, Richard Harris and Bobby Harris; and special family friend, Marnisha Sandifer, Deve Jackson and Marilyn Lott. She will also be remembered fondly by a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service arrangements were entrusted to Cook Richmond Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Cook Richmond Funeral Home, 638 N. Columbia St. in Bogalusa, on Saturday, Aug. 20, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Charlie Parker Sr. officiating.

Interment will be in Bogalusa Cemetery.
