Bishop Alfred N. Young Jr. was born in Bogalusa on Dec. 16, 1955, to Alfred N. Young Sr. and Freddie Irene Anthony. He was the oldest of six children.

He was married to Glenn Marie Bryant, and to this union six children were born.

Pastor Young earned a Master of Theology from Union Baptist Theological Seminary.

Pastor Young founded Faith Bible Church of Covington, La., Upward Community Services, Community Training and Development, Solutions and Covenant Christian Church. He was also called upon to assist many business, churches, and political leaders. He was also a faithful and dear friend to many.

On Aug. 13, 2022, Bishop Alfred N. Young Jr. closed his eyes on earth, and opened them in eternity.

He is preceded in death by his father, Alfred N. Young Sr., and brother, Shelby Young.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 48 years; six children, Shelby Young Woods (Shawn), Samone A. Young, Alfred N. Young III (Joycelyn), James A. Young, Joshua E. Young and Marci Young Barnett (Marcus Sr.); 28 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a nephew whose life he impacted tremendously, Remsey Johnson (Kim); his mother, Freddie Young; four siblings; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to family, he leaves a grateful community that loved him dearly and will forever feel the impact of his presence, and the void created by his absence.

A celebration of his life will be held at First Baptist Church of Covington on Saturday, Aug. 20, at 11 a.m. Viewings will be held on Friday, Aug. 19, at Community Church (Columbia St. Campus) from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., prior to the service at First Baptist.
