Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

After a long battle of cancer and the fallout from radiation therapy, Iona Quinn Heyl went home to her Savior, on Thursday, Aug. 4, in the arms of her devoted husband. Iona was born Sept. 1, 1955, to Josephine Martin and Cecil Quinn in New Orleans. Iona graduated from Warren Easton High School in 1973 and went on to receive a degree in Early Childhood Education from Delgado Community College. Iona met her husband, Brian K. Heyl, on June 26, 1976, and married Aug. 27, 1977.

Iona spent her life serving her community, volunteering at places like the New Orleans Mission, teaching Bible studies at Roosevelt Middle School, and mentoring young women, impacting the lives of hundreds of strangers, all despite being physically disabled from polio. Iona was the definition of perseverance through adversity, showing physical limitations mean nothing when God has a purpose for your life.

Iona is survived by her husband, Brian K. Heyl Sr.; son, Brian K. Heyl Jr.; daughter, Ashley M. Heyl; son in law, Ryan B. Kates; and two grandchildren, Piper Quinn Kates and Ryder Booth Kates.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, Aug. 12, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. for visitation, with services starting at 11 a.m. at Northshore Bible Church located at 19516 Sunshine Ave. in Covington. Per the request of Iona, please do not wear black, but come in colors celebrating her new life.
