MANDEVILLE — Franklinton’s Demons were runner up in the Lakeshore High School 7-on-7 Tournament that was held on Friday and Saturday.

Franklinton posted a 3-1 record each day. They lost their first game on Friday to Covington and the title game against Archbishop Rummel on Saturday, while winning every game in between.

Friday’s play was for seeding before teams went into bracket play on Saturday. Each team was guaranteed two games on Saturday, but a loss took the teams out of championship contention.

Franklinton was the No. 3 seed.

“I’m proud of these kids,” Franklinton coach Guy LeCompte said. “They battled. We want to win the whole thing, but they played their hearts out. I got complimented by coaches and officials on the character of the kids and that’s important. I think our kids played with a lot of character and a lot of effort this weekend. We took a step forward this weekend.”

LeCompte said it was a team effort.

“They’re all making progress,” LeCompte said. “We took a step in the right direction as a team.”

LeCompte also credited Brent Indest, who was recently named Lakeshore’s coach, with picking up the event.

“It was big of Brent Indest to pick up that tournament and I thought they did a heck of a job on short notice,” LeCompte said. “The tournament went very smoothly and we appreciate him keeping this tournament going. It’s a good tournament.”
