A robbery turned to murder early Wednesday morning at an apartment in the 300 block of Second Avenue, and three suspects were in custody by Wednesday evening, according to Bogalusa Police Department Maj. Wendell O’Berry.

Bogalusa police officers arrested Freddie McGowan, 46, of Bogalusa, for the first-degree murder of 50-year-old Travis Davis.

O’Berry said that officers were called to an apartment on Second Avenue shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday morning. There, police discovered the body of Davis, who died of gunshot wounds. Detectives quickly identified several persons of interest, conducted interviews, and determined that Davis was the victim of an armed robbery that escalated to his murder, O’Berry said.

O’Berry said that McGowan was identified as the shooter, and two females were identified as having been involved.

McGowan was charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, armed robbery with a gun, and criminal conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

Teretha Johnson, 43, of Bogalusa, was arrested Wednesday and charged with the same offenses as McGowan. Also arrested Wednesday was Anna Peters, 55, of Bogalusa, who was charged with principal to armed robbery and failure to seek assistance. All three suspects have lengthy criminal histories, BPD officials said.

“The Criminal Patrol Division, Detective Division, and Violent Crimes Task Force are to be commended for their hard work on the case, and quickly solving this crime,” O’Berry said. “The investigation is still active and ongoing, so more details of the crime cannot be released at this time.”
