Bowling Green School’s Buccaneers competed in a spring game against Oak Forest Academy on the road Thursday.

Bowling Green coach Phill Junkins said the team had a good day.

“I’m pleased with what occurred,” Junkins said. “Obviously, everything can be better, but things could’ve been far worse. We competed very well. We’re extremely young. We had some incredible bright spots. We tried to do a lot of things. I thought our quarterbacks played well. For only having about 2.5, 3 weeks of practice and we never had everybody there, the fact that we played as well as we did, I was pleased. The kids showed great effort. I’m excited about the direction we’re going.”

Junkins said that Josiah Miller ran the ball well.

“He’s a bull. He did a great job for us,” Junkins said.

Junkins said that Maddox Magee stood out at quarterback and showed a lot of confidence.

“He admitted to me after the game that speed was the difference,” Junkins said.

Junkins said that Preston Jarrell had some time and threw some nice passes.

He also said that tackles McCauley Keaton and Jacob Matherne blocked well.

Junkins said that defensively, several players had good days.

He said that Dray Killingsworth had the toughest assignment and that Killingsworth did a good job.

Junkins said that they have four players on both sides of the ball that will be sophomores next year and will be starting this season.

“When you start young guys, there will be inconsistencies,” Junkins said.

Bowling Green scored two touchdowns with Deviun Bickham rushing for a 35 yarder and Bryce Graham tallying on a two-yard run.

Trey Champagne intercepted a pass and Kyron Cowart recorded a sack.
