Services for Linda H. Owens will be held Wednesday, May 11, at 11 a.m. at Webb & Stephens Funeral Home-Downtown, in Meridian, Miss., with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton, Miss.

Linda was born in St. Louis, Mo. Her family relocated to Baton Rouge, where she was raised, graduating from Baton Rouge High School in 1957. Shortly after, she relocated to Franklinton until 1978, when she relocated to Slidell. After moves to Pearl, Miss., Ripley, Miss., and Scooba, Miss., her journey ended in Meridian.

Linda had a special way of loving her family that was difficult to understand at times. She was known to rescue pets and God used this trait to assemble a diverse family that came together to accept and love each other immensely.

First Avenue Baptist Church accepted Linda and her family 18 years ago and provided exceptional support through the years. Linda was usually recognized wherever she went, due to her 15 years as a greeter at Walmart.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, W. Leonard and Evelyn Ware Hampton.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 45 years, Robert D. Owens; daughters, Terry Calhoun (Troy) of Ohio, Laurie Bergquist (Mike) of Georgia, and Shineka Johnson of Meridian; sons, Mike Tucker (Lauren) of Louisiana, and John and Nathan Owens, both of Meridian; granddaughters, Regan Thomas (Reese) of Louisiana, Reina Tucker of Louisiana, Samantha Souders (Justin) of Ohio, Jennifer Lawson (Kipp) of Ohio, and Ashley Nicole Johnson of Meridian; grandsons, Ryan Tucker (Madison) of Louisiana, Joshua Bergquist of Georgia, Kameron Johnson and Robert D. Owens II, both of Meridian; great grandchildren, Amelia Tucker, Reecie and Rexford Thomas, and Hank, Mack, and Audrey Souders; and a special mention of John McNeil and Tre’el Martin.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to First Avenue Baptist Church or a charity of their choice in Linda’s memory.
