Valerie Annette Dykes Slocum was born on Sept. 2, 1966, to the late J. Ross Jr. and Cora Dykes. She was the fourth of four, leaving behind two older sisters and one brother.

Valerie passed away on Monday, April 18, 2022, at her residence in Franklinton.

She resided in Long Beach, Calif., for over 20 years, raising four beautiful children with Daria Magee. She returned back to her hometown of Franklinton in 2008, where she remarried Shelton Slocum in 2012.

She is survived by five grandchildren; two bonus grandchildren; and a host of friends and family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, J. Ross Jr. and Cora Dykes.

Valerie was loved by many, always smiling and dancing. She will truly be missed and forever loved.

Drive-thru visitation will be held at Crain and Sons Funeral Home of Franklinton on Friday, April 29 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at Crain and Sons Funeral Home on Saturday, April 30, at 11 a.m. at New Jerusalem Baptist Church.
