Mt. Hermon’s Williams wins the 100 in league competition

Mt. Hermon School’s Amuriel Williams captured the District 8-B title in the league’s meet that was held on Tuesday, April 19 at Christ Episcopal School.

Williams ran the 100 in 13.54 seconds.

Teammate Jaslyn Miller was eighth in 16.07.

Tuesday’s meet was a qualifier. The top four from each event will compete in the Region 3-B Meet at Christ Episcopal School on Thursday.

Mt. Hermon is the only team from Washington Parish in District 8-B.

Williams came in second in the 200 after running a 28.79.

Teammate Charis Layla Bunch was eighth in 37.71. Christ Episcopal School’s Elizabeth Walton won in 28.23.

In the relays, Mt. Hermon’s 4×400, 4×200 and 4×100 teams came in second through fourth respectively with times of 5 minutes, 38 seconds, 2:04 and 59.91. The 4×100 had Miller, Jumyrie Williams, Bunch and Amuriel Williams. The 4×200 group featured Miller, Jumyrie Williams, Katherine Quin and Shunna Williams. The 4×400 team had Quin, Jumyrie Williams, Bailey Fortenberry and Shalee McAllister. Christ Episcopal School swept the relays. Their 4×100 time was 53.92 with the 4×200 at 1:54 and the 4×400 being 4:41.

Shunna Williams came in third for the 800 with a time of 3:38.

McAllister was sixth in 3:56. Christ Episcopal School’s Svenya Stoyanoff won in 2:30.

Camdyn Quin came in third in the 1,600 at 8:24. Stoyanoff won in 5:40.

McKenlyn Garcia was third in the shot put with a distance of 19 feet, 9 inches. Holden’s Kayla Davis won at 31-8.

Shunna Williams was fourth in the 400 after running in 1:22.

Amuriel Williams was sixth in 1:45. Walton topped the vent in 1:04.

Fortenberry came in fourth for the javelin with a throw of 87-7.

Alexis Trahan was eighth at 35-8. Holden’s Alyson Fletcher won at 112-8.

Two more athletes competed for Mt. Hermon, as Fortenberry and Garcia were seventh and eighth in the discus at 44-11 and 35-7. Holden’s Jayden Sharp won at 82-7.
