Mt. Hermon School’s Daeshawn James captured the shot put in the District 8-B Meet that was held at Christ Episcopal School on Tuesday, April 19.

James’ distance was 32 feet, 3 inches.

Teammate Timothy Magee was seventh at 16-7.

Tuesday’s meet was a qualifier. The top four from each event will compete in the Region 3-B Meet at Christ Episcopal School on Thursday.

Mt. Hermon is the only team from Washington Parish in District 8-B.

Two more individuals and three relay teams made it to regionals for Mt. Hermon School.

James and Brandon Tate are headed to regionals along with Mt. Hermon’s 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 relay teams.

James came in third in the discus with a throw of 74-1.5. Christ Episcopal School’s Hunter Reed won at 82-1.5.

Tate was fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 1 minute, 4 seconds. Christ Episcopal School’s Sande Mccomiskey won in 58.56 seconds.

Mt. Hermon’s 4×100 relay team was third in 54.78.

The team included Graysen Claunch, Christopher Mason Taylor, Tate and Omira Williams. Maurepas won the race in 50.35.

Mt. Hermon’s 4×200 and 4×400 relay teams came in fourth with times of 1:54 and 5:10. The 4×100 team had Claunch, Taylor, Tate and Williams. The 4×400 team featured Claunch, Laterrio Harris, Tate and Williams. Christ Episcopal School won both events with times of 1:44 and 4:10.

Several more athletes competed for Mt. Hermon School.

Claunch ran fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:35, as Christ Episcopal School’s Marcus Moses won in 2:12.

Williams was sixth in the 100 after running in 13.05. Holden’s Daniel Contreras won in 12.39.

Taylor was seventh in the 200 at 31.89. Contreras ran a 25.42 to win.

Harris was sixth in the 300 hurdles and seventh for the 1,600 with times of 1:01 and 7:51. Moses won the 300 hurdles in 44.59 and Christ Episcopal School’s Jake Tournillon topped the 1,600 in 5:01.

Taylor and Braylon Garcia were seventh and eighth in the javelin with throws of 84-5 and 58-4. Reed threw a 129-7 to win.
