Franklinton victorious in Cowgirl Relays

Franklinton was victorious in the Cowgirl Relays and two local athletes were double-event winners in the meet that was held on March 10 at Jewel Sumner.

Franklinton scored 160 points.

Jewel Sumner was second with 141 with six teams posting points.

Loranger was third with 95 followed Varnado’s 60, Independence’s 38 and Mt. Hermon School’s 14.

Two local athletes won two events each.

Franklinton’s Sebastian Magee and Varnado’s Quovadis Bickham were double-event winners.

Magee swept the hurdle events, running the 110 meter hurdles in 19.45 seconds and the 300 in 48.12. Teammate Christiun Martin was second in both hurdle events. He completed the 110s in 20.09 and the 300 in 48.17. Varnado’s Devonte Magee was fourth in the 110s in 20.30.

Bickham captured the high jump and triple jump.

BIckham cleared the high jump bar at 5 feet, 6 inches and he triple jumped 39-4.5.

Franklinton’s Jakobie McCormick was second in the high jump at 5-4.

Varnado’s Magee and Franklinton teammates Martin and Zion Anders were fourth-sixth in the triple jump with distances of 34-9, 34-6.5 and 33-10.5.

Several more locals won one event.

Franklinton’s Kendarius Brumfield, teammate Kelly Daniels, Franklinton’s 4×800 relay team, Varnado’s Zamoriyon Washington and Mt. Hermon School’s Graycen Claunch all won one event.

Brumfield won the javelin with a throw of 148-1.

Varnado’s Jamari Lewis, Franklinton’s Ty Miller and Varnado’s McLean Burns were third, seventh and eighth respectively with throws of 120-1, 91-3 and 87-1.

Daniels won the long jump with a distance of 21-4.5.

Varnado teammates Bickham and Magee along with Franklinton’s Timarion Partman came in second, fifth and eighth with jumps of 20-4.5, 18-10.5 and 18-3.

Franklinton’s 4×800 team clocked in at 10 minutes, 17 seconds. The team included Andrew Crain, Jakobie McCormick, Ahmod Partman and Jeremiah Jones.

Washington captured the 200 with a time of 23.73.

Franklinton’s Timarion Partman and teammate Kollin WIlliams were second and third with times of 24.85 and 24.90.

Claunch was the winner of the 800 after running in 2:29.

Jones and McCormick were third and fifth after recording a 2:31 and 2:39.

Crain was second in two events, the 1,600 and 3,200.

Crain ran the 1,600 in 5:34 and the 3,200 in 12:40.

Jones was fourth in the 1,600 with a time of 5:57.

Franklinton’s Kael Boyle and Aiden Moak were third and fourth for the 3,200 with times of 13:38 and 13:57.

Jewel Sumner’s Silas Childress won both events, running the 1,600 in 5:16 and 3,200 at 12:38.

Besides the ones mentioned, a local athlete and two relay teams were second in events.

Kelly Daniels and Franklinton’s 4×200 and 4×400 relay teams all came in second.

Daniels was second in the 100 after running it in 11.46.

Washington was fifth and Franklinton’s Brendan Williams was eighth after tallying an 11.57 and a 12.12. Jewel Sumner’s Brandon Self won in 11.34.

Franklinton’s 4×200 and 4×400 relay teams were second.

The 4×200 team had a time of 1:36 and the 4×400 ran in 4:22.

Mt. Hermon’s 4×200 team was fourth after running it in 1:57.

Franklinton’s 4×200 team included Anders, Daniels, Williams and Timarion Partman. The 4×400 group included Magee, Ahmod Partman, Darnell Straughter and Martin. Mt. Hermon’s 4×200 relay team had Claunch, Laterrio Harris, Brandon Tate and Tyalvin Tate.

Jewel Sumner won the 4×200 in 1:33 and Loranger topped the 4×400 in 4:15.

Franklinton’s Eddie Roberts came in third for the 400 with a time of one minute.

Teammates Straughter and Jackson Bickham were sixth and seventh at 1:02 and 1:03. Childress won in 56.92.

Franklinton’s Wyatt Lambert and Mt. Hermon’s Shelton Spears came in sixth and 11th in the discus with throws of 83-0 and 58-9. Jewel Sumner’s Desmond Collins Jr. won at 38-9.

Varnado teammates Tyran Holmes and Tyler Whitfield, Franklinton’s Shelton Jenkins and Mt. Hermon’s Spears were seventh, eighth, 10th and 13th in the shot put with distances of 29-11, 29-10, 29-0 and 27-1. Collins won at 38-9.

Burns came in ninth for the 400 with a time of 1:11. Childress won in 56.92.

Varnado will compete again on March 29 at Tylertown in Mississippi. Franklinton’s next meet will be on April 1 at Jewel Sumner. Mt. Hermon will be back in action on April 14 at Christ Episcopal School for their district meet.
