Plenty of local powerlifters are headed to state after qualifying at the South Regional Meet at Covington High School on Saturday, Feb. 19.

Franklinton’s Jaylin Magee, Shelton Jenkins, Khaled Waliagha and Adam Galloway and Pine’s A.J. Caillouet, Braeden Arceneaux and Kole Miller are all headed to state.

Five more locals from Pope John Paul II, who are Bogalusa residents, also made it to state in Will Culpepper, Matthew Kirkland, Bryan Mauricio, Cael McDaniel and Wilson Varnado.

To reach state, the lifter had to either win their weight class at the regional meet or come in the top 10 of their division, but when somebody won their regional, that counted as a spot toward state, so if somebody from a Division I school won at regionals, there were nine spots left for state. There were six regions.

Franklinton is in Division II, while Bogalusa is Division III and Pine is Division IV.

The state meet will be held March 24-26 at the Fant Coliseum at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
