Late Wednesday evening, a Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle on Louisiana Highway 21 for a motor vehicle violation. The traffic stop yielded not only a quantity of illegal drugs, but also a fully loaded revolver, according to WPSO Chief Criminal Deputy Mike Haley.

The driver, Wesley Lee Eakes, 41, of Bogalusa, was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of illegal drugs, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with a firearm present and a motor vehicle violation. He was placed in the Washington Parish Jail, with his bond set at $6,000.

“Two traffic stops in the same evening yielded two pistols,” Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal said. “There is always a risk of harm when our deputies encounter someone during the dark of night. I’m so appreciative of the hard work of our deputies who face potential danger each time they encounter a law violator.

“I ask all citizens of Washington Parish to cover our officers in prayer as they work daily to protect us.”
