App State/s Hamilton, Louisiana’s Kimple earn 1st Sun Belt Weekly Honors of 2022 campaign

App State’s Xander Hamilton and Louisiana’s Connor Kimple earned Sun Belt weekly honors after leading their respective teams to series victories over nationally-noted clubs on the opening weekend of the 2022 campaign.

Mountaineers sophomore right-handed pitcher Xander Hamilton held a nationally-noted Campbell club to a single hit and no runs through 6.1 innings in his App State debut. The transfer from Virginia Tech tallied 10 strikeouts in the victory, tying the most by a Mountaineer hurler since 2013. The Raleigh, N.C., native held opposing batters to a .050 batting average—carrying a no-hitter into the seventh inning—before surrendering his lone hit to 2022 Big South Preseason Player of the Year Zach Nieto.

Ragin’ Cajuns senior outfielder Connor Kimple hit .500 (5-for-10) and slugged 1.400 on the opening weekend of the 2022 season. The Whitefish Bay, Wis., product homered in all three games to open the season, propelling Louisiana to a series win over No. 14-ranked UC Irvine. Kimple registered three runs scored and six RBI, while becoming the first Ragin’ Cajun since Hunter Kasuls in 2019 to homer in three-straight games.
