The Southeastern Louisiana University men’s basketball team set an all-time single-season school record with 254 three-pointers after making 11 in Saturday’s 92-84 loss to UIW at the McDermott Center in San Antonio, Texas

SLU (15-13, 7-4 Southland) broke the school record of 251 held by the 2017-18 Lions under former Lions’ head coach Jay Ladner. Southeastern finished the game 11-for-22 (50 percent) from behind the three-point arch.

Keon Clergeot scored 20 points to lead the Lions, shooting 6-for-9 from the field. The Winter Haven, Florida native also was 3-for-5 from three-point range while knocking down all five of his free throws. Gus Okafor added 19 points on 7-for-14 shooting while Jalyn Hinton scored 18 and snatched a team-high seven rebounds.

UIW (6-22, 2-9 Southland) was led by R.J. Glasper with a game-high 29 points, 18 in the second half, on 9-for-18 shooting. Glasper was also 3-for-8 from three-point range and 8-for-9 at the free throw line. Charlie Yoder added 25 points on 10-for-16 shooting while also grabbing 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.

The Lions held an 11-point half team lead of 49-38 as they shot 15-for-29 (51.7 percent) and 9-for-15 from three-point range in the first half.

However, the Cardinals came out on fire in the second half, storming on a 26-6 run as they led 64-55 with 13:07 left.

Southeastern responded with a 14-3 run to regain the lead, 69-67, with 9:05 remaining. But the Cardinals kept converting on the offensive end. UIW shot 65 percent on 15-for-23 shooting in the second half as it pulled away for the win.

The Lions shot 27-for-55 (49.1 percent) from the field for the game while UIW was 31-for-59 (52.5 percent). SLU was 19-for-25 from the free throw line while UIW was 20-for-22.

Despite the loss, SLU continued their incredible run at the free throw line. Following their 31-for-33 performance at the charity stripe against A&M-Corpus Christi, the Lions made 14 straight free throws to start the game Saturday. The Lions started the weekend 45-for-47 at the free throw line before finishing Saturday’s game 5-for-11.

Next up, Southeastern will return home for a showdown with league-leading New Orleans (16-9, 9-1 Southland) Thursday night at 8 p.m. in the University Center. UNO edged SLU, 78-72, back on Jan. 20 in New Orleans.
