Makuvire, Williams and Olsen Shine for SLU at Iowa State Classic

Bradley Makuvire, Javon-Taye Williams and Katrine Olsen moved up in the Southland Conference rankings in their respective events for the Southeastern Louisiana University track and field team Friday during the first day of the Iowa State Classic.

Makuvire, who currently ranks first in the Southland in the one-mile and second in the 3k, added to his versatility Friday. The Zvishavane, Zimbabwe native ran a personal best 14:04.06 in the 5k to grab the conference’s top spot in the event.

Williams, the NJCAA Division I Indoor National Champion in the 800m, had a solid showing in his Lions’ debut. The Kingston, Jamaica product finished fifth in the 600-yard dash in a time of 1:12.21.

On the women’s side, Olsen threw a personal best in the weight throw of 49 feet, 4.5 inches (15.05m). The mark earned the Skive, Denmark native the number six ranking in the Southland Conference in the weight throw.

The meet concludes Saturday as Slavko Stevic will be in action in the men’s high jump at noon while the men’s 4×400 team of Eugene Omalla, Agerian Jackson, Gerson Pozo and Williams will race at 3:30 p.m.
